Donna's Personal Messages
You may contact the artist at artandjazz@jps.net My favorite subjects to paint are the landscapes of Bennett Valley in Sonoma County, where I live. I also enjoy painting at the river's edge at sunset. Autumn is a wonderful time to paint on location. The light is soft and the days are getting shorter, which makes the shadows long and interesting as they cascade over the landscape. My favorite time to paint is sunset. I paint quickly to capture the sunlight before it goes over the mountain. Autumn is coming to an end and soon the air will be cool and crisp. The leaves in the vineyard are still green, however soon they will turn yellow and then orange and crimson. The seasons go by quickly. In July I painted the lavender fields at a nearby winery. Some of my paintings hang in their tasting room. Winter is now here and the beauty of the vines without the leaves are beautiful. Winter is a favorite time for me to paint from my back deck as the fog dances over the landscape between the trees and morning sunrise. The sunrise sky becomes a yellow and orange hue with the hills transparent blue and purple. I wake up early just to see the sunrise. Spring is full of life and the wild flowers are abundant; poppies everywhere, especially at my studio. The mustard fields are brilliant yellow. Spring is a time of renewal and painting outdoors is invigorating. Buds of leaves are covering the vineyard vines like a blanket of velvet. Summer is coming and the hills are turning from green to burnt sienna. I love the combination of these two rich colors. It makes the hills alive. I am going painting tomorrow to paint the hills before they turn brown.
